ART X JUSTICE
When I started selling my art, I knew that I wanted donation to social change to be at the core.
With a recently earned degree in sociology, I constantly think about how humankind can change our world for the better, so that many are benefited rather than just a few. One of the systems where I see the most injustice in the United States is the criminal justice system. I believe we need fundamental change to turn our punitive system into a more restorative justice system.
One of my biggest sources of inspiration is Bryan Stevenson and the Equal Justice Initiative. The EJI has fought for groundbreaking, radical reforms to make our justice system better, but there is still so much work to be done. That is why I have decided that a 10% portion of all of my profits will go directly to the EJI to support the work that they are doing. CLOTHING JUSTICE
When I first began painting on clothing, I used only secondhand items. I would go to thrift stores once a week and find plain clothing to paint on. I loved upcycling and giving old clothing new life. But, when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in March, I was no longer able to thrift clothing. I began purchasing eco-friendly clothing items online, but still felt guilty for using new materials.
Now, I use a combination of materials for my clothing products. My ultimate hope is that you will purchase mindfully, only buying products that you know you will love and use for many years to come. If you keep and cherish your clothing items, we won't be contributing to clothing waste. Furthermore, by purchasing from me, you are supporting a small, woman-owned business, rather than a large corporation.
Furthermore, I try to use sustainably and fairly made materials wherever possible. My location shirts are printed on BELLA + CANVAS tees, which are produced sustainably in the United States.
